Compiled by London's DJ Diddy Wah, who is known for his Diddywah Blog, his radio show, and his constant presence as a host and DJ for London club nights like Heavy Sugar, Get Rhythm, and others. This volume, along with its predecessor, Volume 3 (STAGO 064LP), is also available on CD as Slow Grind Fever Volume 3 & 4 (STAGO 066CD). The decade between 1953 and 1963 offers an endless supply of danceable, up-tempo tunes. We're talking rhythm 'n' blues, and the phase in the early '60s when it morphed into soul (now called new breed), as well as popcorn -- Belgian music with a mid-tempo style and a high groove-factor. BUZZSAW - From Lemon Drops to Acid Rock ( POWER TRIO Chicago 60s )-Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) From the ashes of 60s garage band The Lemon Drops comes power trio Buzzsaw with their loud heavy-psych sound. In the late 60s, The Lemon Drops, one of the finest garage-psych bands from Chicago, relocated to the West Coast, where they gigged around and tried to secure a record contract. After a three-day “strawberry acid party” at manager Dan Herron’s mansion, the original band disintegrated. And that’s when power trio Buzzsaw was born, featuring Eddie and Gary Weiss (both ex-Lemon Drops) on guitar / drums respectively and Rick Fertel on bass. Buzzsaw was the perfect vehicle for Eddie Weiss to push his guitar and effect pedals to the limit. The trio used to visit “Starhill”, Neil Young’s old sawmill in La Honda, where they rehearsed & wrote songs. In 1971, Max Weiss (Creedence Clearwater Revival’s manager) expressed interest in the band, so Buzzsaw entered Ampex Studios in San Francisco to lay down some tracks. They also recorded some material at Pacific Sound Studios. Sadly, Buzzsaw only released one 45 during their short lifespan. And it was a frustrating release, as it included a recording from the Lemon Drops era on the A-Side backed with a new song which didn’t reflect the real sound of the band on the B-Side. That 45 went nowhere, Buzzsaw split and the recordings they did at Ampex and Pacific Studios remained unreleased until 1995, when some of them were included on “From Lemon Drops To Acid Rock”, a Buzzsaw CD compilation by Cicadelic Records. Our Buzzsaw double vinyl retrospective includes all the tracks from the previous “From Lemon Drops To Acid Rock” CD plus some amazing recently discovered acetates and unreleased master tapes. Edition of 500. "Owen Maercks's Teenage Sex Therapist LP is one of the forgotten twisted pop masterpieces of the Twentieth Century. Owen had been in Monster Island with Henry Kaiser, who proposed he do a solo album or his songs. Henry had moved back west by this time, so Owen went out and recorded this album there. Henry produced, and added amazing horn parts by Jon Oswald, Larry Ochs, and John Gruntfest. In 1978, the album was mixed, pressed, and distributed exclusively to radio stations, record labels, and the like, in hopes of getting Owen signed. The music didn't fit any extant pigeonhole, however, so no deal was in the offing. About the only note of its passing was made by an A&R guy at Elektra, who swiped the arrangement (and lyric rearrangement) of 'Little Black Egg' (originally by The Nightcrawlers) for use by his protégées, The Cars. Well, fuck them. Teenage Sex Therapist is ripe with jaw-drop moves. Flashes of Eno, Beefheart, Lou Reed, The Bonzos, and various of Owen's other obsessions fight each other for air time. The Bitter Seeds were one of the pioneering bands from the early Monterey music scene. Led by flashy guitar player Leonard "Pooch" Paschini, they were active from 1966 to 1970, gigging regularly at such legendary venues as Bull's Eye Tavern, Longshoremen's Hall, The Matrix, and The Fillmore and sharing stages with the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Iron Butterfly, and Steppenwolf. In 1967, The Bitter Seeds recorded their only 45, issued on Rowena Records as The Rock Shop to avoid confusion with The Seeds. State of Your Mind/Is That Your Halo is a brutal garage-psych double-sider. The following year the group recorded four studio tracks that have remained unreleased until now. These are perfect examples of the transition from R&B-garage to early psychedelic sounds that many San Francisco ballroom bands experienced at the time. An exciting find for any lover of lost West Coast psychedelic sounds. To find an original copy of this compilation and not have to give up a kidney in exchange would be quite a feat, but now Radio Raheem waves their magic wand and Charred Remains is something for everyone to enjoy in the vinyl format. CHRISTOPHER- ST ( 70s PSYCH biker-trio, orig artwork, insert with liner notes ) -Label:OUT SIDER Official LP-reissue of the highly regarded 1970-LP by this band that started out in Texas (as United Gas), but changed its name to Christopher when they moved to LA. They were a full-on PSYCHEDELIC biker-trio, featuring drummer Doug Tull, who later went on to play with JOSEFUS.The LP is an amazing example of West Coast psychedelia and acid-rock, featuring strong fuzz-wah guitar, great compositions and superb musicianship. This definitely is one of the holy grails of American psychedelic rock and the rarest album originally released by the collectable Metromedia label. WE THE PEOPLE (CA)/AMERICAN ZOO -- Visions of Time/ Complete Recordings insert/booklet with rare photos and detailed liner notes -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) This superb release tells the story of L.A.-based '60s teen band We The People (not to be confused with the better known Florida outfit of the same name). These guys played an amazing blend of garage, folk-rock and psychedelia, resulting in a handful of cool 45s which they recorded for the Reena label in 1967-'68. Guitar player Bill Bottrell later became a Grammy award producer, working with Michael Jackson, Madonna and George Harrison among others. Drummer Jason "Jasun" Martz toured with Frank Zappa and recorded with Michael Jackson. Today, he's a well-known avant-garde artist and sculptor. Steve Zaillian, the band's original drummer, became an Academy Award winning director, producer and screenwriter ('Schindlers List' and 'Hannibal' among others). This collection includes all the We The People/American Zoo 45 sides plus two previously unreleased tracks from 1967, taken from the only surviving copy of the band's ultra rare 10-inch demo acetate.
